Dr. Burton was the director of Museo de Oro, Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro.  Dr. Burton obtained her doctorate in Anthropology at the University of Pittsburgh.  She had her MA in archaeology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. She taught anthropology (archaeology and biological anthropology) at Imperial Valley, Imperial, California for five years from 1969 to 1974.  She was also instrumental in putting up the Imperial Valley College Museum. After finishing her PhD, she went back to Cagayan de Oro and taught at Xavier University from 1983 to 2018 -- training students in museum work and field research.  She also served as the Research Director for Research Institute for Mindanao Culture at the Xavier University for nine years from 1996 to 2005.
